Tour Muslim Tour and Sephardic Traces in Almería
The history of Almería has been forged from a rich mix of cultures and traditions. During the Middle Ages, Muslim Almería – known as Al-Mariyya Bayyana – stood out as a prosperous port city in Al-Andalus, becoming a hub of trade and culture thanks to its strategic location on the Mediterranean coast. At this time, Muslim, Jewish and Christian communities coexisted, leaving traces of their legacy despite the scarcity of vestiges, and marking a period in which the city was transformed into a vibrant melting pot of arts and sciences.
The proposed route highlights the fortified character of the city, focusing the visit on the imposing Alcazaba of Almería, built in 955 by Abderramán III, which is made up of two Muslim enclosures and one Christian enclosure added after the conquest in 1489. Throughout the tour, you will delve into the customs, traditions and gastronomy of the 10th to 15th centuries, culminating in a culinary experience in a cozy tea room located in the oldest neighborhood, where you can taste flavors inspired by the Arab and Sephardic heritage.
