Advice for travelling to beach destinations during the COVID-19 crisis

Both in summer and in winter, a lovely beach with lots of fresh air provides an excellent opportunity for some healthy enjoyment. As well as always respecting the specific measures in place at your destination, here you have some tips on how to enjoy the sunshine with complete peace of mind.

Wearing a face mask is mandatory (except for children under the age of 6) in all enclosed public spaces and enclosed spaces open to the public. It is not mandatory to wear a face mask outside, except at large outdoor events where attendees are standing. Or if when seated it is not possible to maintain the safety distance of 1.5 m (except in the case of members of the same household).

1. Enjoy the beach with complete peace of mind

Before you go, check out what measures are in place at the beach you’re planning to visit, for example maximum capacities or the need to reserve space, etc.

Whenever possible respect safety distances with people you don’t live with, both in and out of the water. To effectively disinfect your hands, brush the sand off before applying hand sanitiser.

2. Water sports: an option to complement your trips

If you’re after a different type of experience, why not enjoy some water sports. To do so safely, it’s a good idea to take your own equipment if you can, and be sure to disinfect it when you’ve finished using it. If you decide to use a certified school, spend as little time as possible in the changing rooms, and keep a safe distance between yourself and others during the warm-up exercises and while you’re in the water.

3. Go sailing, minimising the risk of infection

Check out the safety rules implemented by the boat hire company you aim to use in advance. To reduce unnecessary forms of contact, register online with sailing clubs, etc.

4. Scuba diving (safely) is also a good option

You can enjoy a scuba diving session at any time of year. Diving centres provide regulators without mouthpieces, so it is advisable to take your own. Apply an anti-fog solution to your mask. Lastly, remember to disinfect your equipment when you’ve finished using it.
